Watch the videoThis scholarship is awarded to full — time, undergraduate students majoring in a Foreign Language who are interested in studying abroad, who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater, and who have a demonstrated financial need.
Two full time students in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures will be provided scholarships; one award will go to a student majoring in Spanish, the second to a student majoring in any language program. In the event that a Spanish major is not identified, the award may be given to an eligible student majoring in any foreign language program. To be eligible, the candidate must demonstrate promise of academic excellence and who may be unable to attend Towson University if they were not given financial assistance. Preference can be given to candidates that demonstrate in an essay that they are committed to the Ibero — American culture and language. The term Ibero — American refers to the culture and language traditionally celebrated by individuals of Spain and/or Latin American origin.
The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize students annually in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures. The students will be named by the Scholarship Committee of the department. The minimum award for each student is to be $150.00 with the exact amount of each award to be based on available funds.
This scholarship is open to continuing full time or part time freshman, sophomore, junior and senior students in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures.
The amount of this annual award will be determined by the Scholarship Committee and may vary from year to year. It will be applied to the student's financial account and may be used as credit for tuition, fees, books, and/or room and board.
Eligibility is based on the highest academic achievement and excellence in French and/or Spanish as well as by current criteria for financial aid as established by the Financial Aid office at Towson University.
Students shall be enrolled as full — time sophomore or junior students at Towson University who are majoring in French and/or Spanish at the time of application.
A letter of recommendation from a faculty member at Towson University and an official copy of the applicant's grade transcript should be included with the application.
