Applied Ethics & National Security Scholarship

The College of Liberal Arts will award scholarships for use in the upcoming academic year to undergraduate students who are declared majors within the college and who demonstrate strong academic performance.

The College of Liberal Arts invites applications for the Applied Ethics and National Security Scholarship.

The Applied Ethics and National Security Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student who has declared a major in one of the departments or programs located in the College of Liberal Arts. The Applied Ethics and National Security Scholarship will normally provide at least $1000 to recipients, depending on endowment income, toward the costs of tuition or other University charges.

Students may apply for the Applied Ethics and National Security Scholarship by submitting the following materials through Blackbaud Award Management (BAUD) no later than November 30, 2024:

  • A 1000-2000 word Essay that demonstrates application of ethics in an area(s) related to national security. Possible topics could include ethical issues in areas surrounding artificial intelligence, social media, cyber warfare, law of armed conflict, any US Department of Defense policies. Essay will be evaluated based on writing quality, identification, and clear description of at least one specific issue, how ethics impact the issue(s), and use of specific examples to highlight the discussion. References, if used, need to be accurately cited.
    • In keeping with the spirit of this award, we ask applicants not to use any AI assistance in the writing of their essay. Essays that have been written by AI will be disqualified. 

The award will be applied towards spring tuition. Therefore, graduating seniors are not eligable.
