Program Phases
Students move through the Elementary Education program in five phases
- Pre Level I consists of all the prerequisite courses needed for acceptance into the Elementary Education major. During this phase, students are designated as Pre-Elementary Education majors and take all of the Towson University Core Curriculum courses and the Elementary Education prerequisite courses.
- Level I is the first semester of the Elementary Education program. Students begin field placement experiences focused on literacy and mathematics.
- Level II is the second semester of the Elementary Education program. Students take courses focused on literacy and science instruction and attend field placements.
- Level III is the third semester of the Elementary Education program and the beginning of a year-long internship in one or more professional development schools. Interns take courses a variety of advanced courses and attend field placements on a part-time basis.
- Level IV is the final semester of the Elementary Education program. Interns return to the professional development school(s) where they completed their Level 3 internships and complete full time student internships.
