Linguistic Diversity Minor
Enhance your cross-cultural communication skills, learn culturally responsive practices, and prepare yourself to work with linguistically diverse students, clients and audiences.
According to the 2017 Census Bureau, 21 percent of the U.S. population—almost 70 million
people—speak a language other than English in their homes. The linguistic diversity minor
will help you to develop professional strategies that will enable you to work effectively
with this large and growing population.
This minor, which offers a comprehensive exploration of best practices for cross-cultural
and translingual communication, is open to students in any major who anticipate working
in a multicultural, multilingual or international setting.
The minor is awarded upon completion of 18 units of required and elective courses.
Note that some of the electives may have prerequisites associated with them. View
requirements for the minor in the Undergraduate Catalog.
