SCED 647 ADVANCED PROCESSES OF TEACHING AND LEARNING (3) — Aligned to Foundational Competencies of National Board Certification and Component

Systems for analyzing teaching behavior, models of instruction for achieving cognitive,
social, and personal learning objectives; and analysis of classroom application of
teaching models. Prerequisite: Teaching experience or consent of instructor.
ELED 648 DIFFERENTIATING INSTRUCTION FOR ADVANCED LEARNING (3) —
Aligned to Component 2 of National Board Certification
Current research and practices for development and modification of curriculum and
instruction to address learning characteristics of students in the heterogeneous classroom,
especially diverse populations of gifted and talented students; approaches for modification
of basic curriculum, alternative models for differentiating curriculum and instruction;
classroom management, resources for gifted student in the regular classroom. Prerequisite:
Teaching experience.
EDUC 660 MATTERS OF DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND EMPOWERMENT IN LEARNING COMMUNITIES (3) — Aligned to Component 3 of National Board Certification
Past and current trends in equity and inclusive education, underlying theories and
relationship to teaching in culturally diverse classrooms. Nature of bias and impact
on learning environments. Evaluation and development of culturally relevant curriculum
and instruction.
SPED 632 ASSESSMENT ISSUES FOR CULTURALLY AND LINGUISTICALLY DIVERSE STUDENTS (3)
— Aligned to Component 4 of National Board Certification
Overview of educational assessment as it relates to culturally and linguistically
diverse student populations, addressing the impact of variables such as language,
culture, acculturation, and socioeconomic status in the assessment process. Emphasis
will be placed on these and other factors impacting assessment, on informal and dynamic
assessment procedures, and on the formal assessment and identification process for
special education as it relates to diverse students.
