New Music Ensemble
The New Music Ensemble at Towson University is a professional ensemble that presents concerts, guest lectures, master classes, symposia, and related events each season. The New Music Ensemble is directed by William Kleinsasser.
In 2001, through the creation of the New Music Ensemble Endowed Fund, Towson University established a permanent professional New Music Ensemble to offer on-going focus on contemporary music at Towson University and the greater Baltimore region. The New Music Ensemble presents a range of public events including concerts of new music with an emphasis on the music created within three decades of each concert season. The Ensemble is associated with the music composition program in the Department of Music at Towson University and it complements these activities by sponsoring master classes and lectures given by featured composers and performers, and symposia related to the work of the Ensemble as well as offering opportunities for student composers to hear and record their music.
Recent highlights include residencies with the Bergamot Quartet and Sō Percussion and collaborations with TU faculty composers Jordan Chase and Will Redman.
The New Music Ensemble Endowed Fund was established through a gift from the Argosy Foundation. In addition to the Argosy gift, matching funds will be contributed through the Maryland Private Donor Incentive Program (PDIP) II and the fund is open to future deposits beyond this initial set of contributions. Annual expendable income from the Fund covers all costs related to the annual productions of the Ensemble.
