About the Minor in Music Technology

Adding a minor in music technology gives you the opportunity to get hands on experience with the tools of the trade, including the software and hardware used by music professionals for recording and production. Understanding the diverse and ever-changing world of music technology gives you a wide range of artistic opportunities, preparing you for a wide array of possible career paths.

Degree Requirements

The minor in music technology is a flexible addition to any major, in any discipline. Requiring only 20 units, the minor in allows you the freedom to choose how you would like to fulfill half of that total.

A minor in music technology requires the following:

  • 4 units of lessons
  • 6 units of music technology courses
  • 3 units chosen from a list of MUSC and EMF courses
  • 7 units of MUSA or MUSC electives

Students who intend to minor in music technology are advised to declare no later than the fourth term. Expect to complete the minor in four or more terms.

Admission Requirements

This is a screened minor; acceptance to the music technology minor requires application to the Department of Music, a portfolio review and an interview. Faculty members will help you through the various aspects of the audition process.

Once accepted into the minor, a department adviser will assist you with building meaningful schedules.
