Why Choose the Master’s in Biology with the Thesis Track?

The master's degree in biology with the thesis track requires 30 units of coursework. It's intended for students who wish to pursue more intense research training. 

• Graduate assistantships and research assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis to full-time thesis students.
• The thesis option requires the support of a faculty mentor, the completion of a large research project, and producing a thesis of publishable quality for a peer-reviewed scientific journal. 
• In the thesis track, 6 of the required 30 units are dedicated to conducting research.
• Students focus course work and research in one of two areas:
  cellular, molecular and microbiology or ecology and organismal biology.
