Liz Scarbrough

Liz has a passion for helping children, young adults and families. She joined Towson University over 20 years ago, first as a technology trainer and then as a learning specialist. Mrs. Scarbrough received her B.A. in chemistry from the University of San Diego, followed by her M.S. in chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University. Most recently she completed her M.Ed. in early childhood education at Towson University. In her free time her greatest joy is spending time with family. She also enjoys solving puzzles and playing games. Liz is NCLCA Learning Center Leadership Certified - Level 3. 

Jeremy Boettinger

Jeremy earned a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science from Towson University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Baltimore, a Graduate Certificate in Instructional Systems Development from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and is currently completing an Ed.D. in Instructional Technology at Towson University. Jeremy has taught at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and started his journey in higher education employment as an Undergraduate Mathematics Tutor before becoming a Tutoring Coordinator here at Towson University. He has a passion for helping students reach their full potential both in and out of the classroom. In his free time, he enjoys cheering for the local sports teams, spending time with family and friends, traveling, and training for triathlons.

Lucienne Karszen

Lucienne Karszen graduated from Towson University’s Honors College in May 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Financial Economics. As an undergraduate student, she successfully defended her honors thesis which involved analyzing the effects of evidence-based nudges on improving gender and racial diversity in economics. She interned abroad in Berlin, Germany, for the Education Technology Start-up, Knowunity, where she met amazing people from around the world, collaborated with teams who were passionate about education equity, and discovered her interests in project management. After graduation, she began working for TU’s growing Supplemental Instruction program. She enjoys coaching and supporting students; and collaborating with wonderful faculty and staff. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her loved ones, creating fashion designs, testing out new recipes, and enjoying a great cup of coffee while reading or listening to podcasts.

Ali Brill

Ali completed an undergraduate degree in philosophy at Towson University. During her final semester at Towson, she worked as a philosophy tutor for the Tutoring & Learning Center. She went on to earn a master’s degree in environmental philosophy from the University of Montana, in Missoula. In Montana, she worked as a teaching assistant for the philosophy department. Ali is passionate about deathcare and enjoys casual chats about our shared mortality. She also enjoys composting, tending to houseplants, and laughing with strangers. Ali is a lifelong learner and is dedicated to unpacking what it means to be a human on Earth.

Janae Carter

Janae Carter

Janae received her B.S. in Liberal Studies at Lesley University and her M.F.A. in Creative Writing at Adelphi University. She has been teaching and aiding students in reaching their learning goals for over a decade and working in higher education since 2020. Janae is a born and bred New Yorker who is always on the lookout for great pizza and bagels. Other than teaching, her passions include dance, reading, and writing. She also enjoys experimenting in the kitchen and exploring historical sites.

Kyle is an Information Technology major pursuing his B.A. in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences. He also works as the Lab Systems Administrator for the department. In his spare time he enjoys photography, technology, and playing various musical instruments.

Siamak Salmasi

Siamak Salmasi

Siamak comes from a family of educators and has a passion for helping students to be successful. His journey in higher education started from tutoring where he tutored in chemistry and math. In the role of an Academic Success Coach, he helped students develop skills such as organizational and time management, to be successful in college. he received his B.A. in Chemistry from University of Maryland Baltimore County and M.S. in Chemistry from Ohio University. He currently teaches undergraduate chemistry courses and enjoy every aspect of interacting with the students and helping them achieve their educational goals. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with family and friends. He also enjoys biking, swimming, and exploring the state parks and hiking routes. 

Angela Simms

Angela enjoys the vivacious college atmosphere of students seeking a valuable goal. Born and raised in Baltimore, her path turned toward Towson University. She attended TU as a student, worked on campus as a student assistant, earned a B.A. degree in mass communications and devotes her career in higher education as a full-time staff member. In addition to her enjoyment of working with college students for over 21 years, Ms. Simms cherishes church fellowship, giving to the needy and missionaries, traveling, interior decorating and delicious meals with friends and family.

Sandrine Tchatie-Leudeu

Learning Specialist: Math Coordinator and Technology Specialist

Sandrine earned a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from The City University of New-York and a master of science degree in applied mathematics with a concentration in actuarial science from Boston University. Sandrine has been teaching in higher education for over 10 years, focusing on improving the learning experience for students. She joined Towson University in 2013 as an adjunct faculty for the department of Mathematics. On her spare time, she loves spending time with her family. She also enjoys volunteering in assisting high school students with their mathematical research at the Greater New-York Math Fair. Her learning journey is continuous and she is always seeking academic innovation.

Tyler Ung

Tyler Ung

Tyler is a Towson alumnus and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science and Risk Management. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Actuarial Science and Predictive Analytics. During his time as an undergraduate, he was the Public Relations Officer for the Actuarial Science and Risk Management Club in which he helped promote workshops and club events. In his spare time, he is an avid gamer that loves hosting game nights with his friends.

Deajah Harris

Academic Renewal Program Teaching Assistant

Deajah holds a Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from Towson University and is currently pursuing a master's degree at Towson in Speech-Language Pathology. As an undergraduate, she served as a mentor for the Students Achieve Goals through Education (SAGE) and College Readiness Outreach Program (CROP), where she had the privilege of giving back to her community. In her spare time, Deajah enjoys quality moments with her friends and family. Her passion for helping others has fueled her dedication to the field of speech-language pathology, where she aspires to make a meaningful impact. 

Khushi Bhatia

Khushi is a second year Masters student in the Clinical Psychology program at Towson University. She graduated with a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a minor in English Literature from Ashoka University, India. After graduation, she intends to pursue a career as a counsellor and researcher in the field of mental health. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, watching movies, and painting. 

Olivia Berge

Academic Renewal Program Teaching Assistant

Olivia is a graduate student in the speech pathology program. She one day wants to work in the hospital setting, treating dysphagia clients. She received her first bachelor’s degree at Frostburg State University in psychology. For her second degree she took part in the speech pathology second bachelor’s program. One accolade includes presenting at ASHA with Dr. Pellowski on the connection between stuttering and mindfulness. She has a background in teaching and mentoring as well, taking part in the SI program for the Allied Health Introduction to Biology course for three semesters. At Frostburg State University she held a ULA position for Introduction to Psychology for two semesters. As a student success mentor, she helped teach an ORIE 101 course for those new to Frostburg State University. She has both a passion for research and a desire to learn. In her spare time, she enjoys singing, reading, and trying out a new TV show.
