Request Short URLs & QR Codes

Towson University departments and organizations can request official TU short URLs and QR codes from Digital Strategy by using the short URL or QR code request form.

A short URL is a shortened www.towson.edu link that is easy to remember, type and share. A QR code can be scanned with a mobile device to open a webpage.

Short URL Criteria

Before submitting your request, please make certain your short URL:

  • is not already in use
  • relates to the site/page content and is not overly broad or vague
  • links to a www.towson.edu webpage or a TU-owned web property

Example of an acceptable short URL: www.towson.edu/policies. This is acceptable because it describes the site content and is the location of all official TU policies.

Example of an unacceptable short URL: www.towson.edu/graduate. This is unacceptable because it is too broad and could relate to graduating, graduate studies, graduates, etc.

QR Code Criteria

Before submitting your request, please make certain your QR code:

  • is not used for email, social media or on websites
  • links to a www.towson.edu webpage or a TU-owned web property

Tracking Needs

Describe whether this link request relates to other tracking links. Will there be multiple links for the same effort or broader campaign over time? Will the links be placed in multiple channels (e.g. social media, email, print, etc.)? If so, these links should share the same tracking details.
