TU is among the top 100 public universities in the nation, and a best value public university in the region according to Forbes and U.S. News & World Report. One of our highest priorities is keeping your education affordable.
At Towson University, we are committed to providing a solid return on your education investment. We want to be sure you and your family understand our tuition rates and other costs.
The Financial Aid Office provides detailed Cost of Attendance Budgets for undergraduate and graduate students. We use these budgets to calculate your maximum financial aid awards and your eligibility for need-based aid. We also encourage you to use these budgets to plan for your college expenses.
To determine whether a student qualifies for in-state or out-of-state tuition, Towson University follows guidelines established by the University System of Maryland Policy on Student Classification for Admission and Tuition Purposes (PDF). The individual seeking in-state tuition status shall have the burden of proving satisfaction for all requirements of this policy, and in-state or out-of-state status will be assigned by the university upon review of the facts known or presented to it.
The initial determination for in-state residency will be based on the information you provide at the time you complete your application. You will be notified on your admission letter of your determination or if additional information would be required. New applicants who do not initially qualify are eligible to petition a tuition review committee for consideration. For questions or concerns regarding initial residency review please email admissionsresidency AT_TOWSON. After the first term of attendance, students who wish to change their residency status should contact the Registrar’s Office to obtain a Petition for In-State Residency, 410-704-3104.
