Mid-Year Cancellation Checkout Procedures

Residents who are approved for a contract cancellation must vacate their buildings within 72-hours of approval or by the date communicated in their cancellation confirmation email. OneCard access will turn off by that date.

Residents who do not check out by their move-out date may be assessed $175 Late Stay Fee and will be asked to leave immediately.

Residents who move out without being approved are still responsible for their housing charges (and dining charges where applicable). In these cases, whether the resident lives in the space or not, the space still belongs to the resident and the charges will remain on their student account.

Before Leaving

Before leaving, students must:

  • remove all personal items/belongings from all spaces in the unit, including common areas, kitchens, bathrooms, etc. where applicable
  • clean their respective parts of the room/unit (if they are the only resident living in the unit or if it is a single space, the resident must clean the entire unit)
  • remove all of their adhesives from the walls, doors and windows
  • clean their personal items from fridge
  • remove all their trash and recyclables
  • shut and secure all windows (if they are the only resident in the unit)
  • lower/close blinds/curtains (if they are the only resident in the unit)
  • shut off lights and water
  • formally check out and turn in key(s) at the Community Center desk

Closing Inspection

Students are expected to leave their room in the same condition as found upon move in. When a student checks out of their room, Housing and Residence Life professional staff will inspect the space. Issues or concerns identified will first be compared to the Room Condition Report on file to determine if they were pre-existing. Any repairs caused by intentional/egregious damage, lack of cleaning, missing furnishings, removal of abandoned property and missing keys/re-cores will be assessed during this inspection and charged to a student's account. Vandalism may also be reported to the Office of Student Accountability and Restorative Practices

The Housing and Residence Life professional team makes every attempt to attribute damage and vandalism charges to the individual(s) responsible, but when those responsible are not identified, all members of a unit, room, or floor may be charged equally for damages. It is our hope that affected residents will cooperate with the Housing and Residence Life professional team to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
