Assisting Students in Distress
A faculty or staff member is often the first person to recognize when a student is in distress. Here are some gentle reminders when reaching out to the person:
- You are not expected to provide personal counseling to the student(s).
- Encourage the student(s) to use campus resources.
- Facilitate a referral to the Counseling Center, Student Outreach & Support, Title IX Office, Health Center and/or Accessibility & Disability Services.
